Sights in Almere

| | |

Urban design, vast nature and cosy hotspots: Almere has it all. On this page, you will find eight sights in Almere that should not be missed during your visit.

Almere Centrum

The bustling centre of Almere is the city centre: Almere Centrum. With over four hundred shops, this is the place for an afternoon of shopping. Combine your shopping trip with cultural activities at Kunstlinie. Here you can enjoy music, musicals, theatre, opera, cabaret and other events. Join a City Walk to see more of Almere Centrum and end your day with dinner in one of the restaurants at Restaurantplein Belfort.

Oostvaardersplassen

When you think of a large nature reserve in Flevoland, you definitely think of Oostvaardersplassen. In this landscape of grass, marsh, water and forest, large groups of deer, horses and cows graze. If you found it hard to believe that the scenes from the film De Nieuwe Wildernis were really shot in the Netherlands, then it is high time you visited the Oostvaardersplassen yourself. Start your wild adventure at the Natuurbelevingcentrum De Oostvaarders and board the ecocar with the forest ranger for a safari in your own country.

Stadslandgoed de Kemphaan

In the woods of Almere you will find the most adventurous country estate in the Netherlands: Stadslandgoed de Kemphaan. Walk or cycle through the woods from Buitencentrum Almeerderhout or take part in an activity of Stichting Stad & Natuur. Children and adults have fun among the treetops in the Netherlands' largest climbing forest, Klimbos Fun Forest, and in Dierenpark Almere Jungle. After all that adventure, it's time for a drink on the terrace of Restaurant Buitengewoon Lekker.

Lepelaarplassen

Along Oostvaardersdijk, the Lepelaar family has lived for decades. The nature reserve is not called the Lepelaarplassen. The white birds share their habitat with over three hundred other bird species. Take a walk or cycle along the bird-watching huts and don't forget your binoculars. A good starting point for your adventure is Bezoekerscentrum de Trekvogel, from where you can also set off with a nature guide.

Havenkom

Almere's oldest district is still vibrant. In the Havenkom experience a good time on the terrace overlooking the water of the harbour. Here, it feels more like a village than a big, modern city. What makes the Havenkom different from 'real' villages is its great culinary diversity. Enjoy dishes from all over the world.

Almeerderstrand

Taking a beach walk in the polder? Yes, you can do that too in Almere. Visit the wide Almeerderstrandwalk along the waterline and enjoy a drink at Strandpaviljoen Poortdok. On hot days, take a dip in the water and then work on your tan on the beach. In summer, part of the beach is the setting for fun events such as Summerpark Festivalen Strandfestival Zand.

Urban design in Almere Buiten

In Almere Buiten, you will find not only nature but also exceptional architecture. Join a City Walk along the urban design highlights or take an independent walk or bike ride through the district. Spots not to be missed are the Rooie Donders, the Ketelhuiswoningen and Buitenkans, the ecological district of Almere.
