About Almere

Almere is the youngest city in the Netherlands and is centrally located in the middle of the country. The city now has over 230,000 inhabitants, making it the seventh largest city in the Netherlands. Almere is the green city of the future. Designed and built as a 'garden city', a landscape with urban cores of different types and sizes, where everyone lives close to large green areas and in a water-rich environment and where public transport and cycling are prioritised. Also unique about Almere: As part of the province of Flevoland, 80 years ago there was still sea here. Because of the world's largest reclamation project, there is now a unique province with cities, villages and plenty of space for agriculture.
