10x forests in Almere
There is no better place to take a leisurely walk than through Almere's forests. There are several beautiful walking routes and places to walk your dog here. We would like to give you a hand in getting to know Almere a little better, so we introduce you to some different forests in Almere. Put on your wellies, dust off your binoculars and feast your eyes on Almere's most beautiful forests.
Lepelaarplassen
Along Oostvaardersdijk lies the beautiful nature reserve the 'Lepelaarplassen' named after the large colony of spoonbills that have lived here since the 1970s. Other common bird species are the grebe, great egret, little grebe and cormorant. So it is a real bird paradise here. Above all, don't forget your binoculars!
Het Beginbos
The Begin Forest is located between the Havendreef and Begin Road. Parking is available at the Begin Place. Besides a nice walk, you can also come and see the Bee Garden.
Oostvaardersbos
In the Oostvaardersbos in Almere, one immediately feels like being in the Oostvaardersplassen. This area has numerous footpaths and a number of special clearings. You will be introduced to beautiful nature and in the morning and evening twilight you can even come face to face with red deer in winter and spring.
Pampushout
Several recreational facilities can be found in this forest stretching between Almere Stad and Almere Poort. The foothills of the Pampushout extend as far as the Oostvaardersdijk. It is the habitat of buzzards, golden orioles, roe deer, hares and rabbits. Equestrian, hiking and cycling trails run through the park-like area. In the seepage zone, the area between Pampushout and Lepelaarplassen, many birds can be spotted, such as marsh harrier, bearded reed warbler and three species of plover. In Pampushout, horses and dogs are allowed, there are walking, - and cycling paths and you can easily picnic at the picnic tables.
Vroege Vogelbos
The Vroege Vogelbos is located near Almere Haven and can be reached via Muidenweg and Farflerpad. Parking is available at Nest Place.
Kotterbos
The Kotterbos borders the Oostvaardersplassen. The forest consists of poplars and a wet area with rough reed beds and willow thickets. Deer, foxes, hares and sometimes beavers live here. Fishermen can cast their lines in the nearby Vaart in peace and quiet. Walkers can follow the Poplar Route (3.5 km) or the Oak Route (5 km).
Zuiderzee Speelbos
Almere has one of the largest play forests in the Netherlands. The Zuiderzee Speelbos consists of 4 play areas. The furnishings and play objects are entirely in the atmosphere of the Zuiderzee, each with its own character and its own challenges. Come and discover the winding paths, water features, islands and much more!
Wilgenbos
The Wilgenbos is a spontaneously created forest with, as the name suggests, mainly willows. The wilgenbos forest borders the Oostvaardersplassen and the Grote Vaartweg by a few hundred metres. Dogs are not allowed here. There are footpaths, picnic tables and a hut with great views here! Above all, don't forget to bring your boots and binoculars as these are definitely recommended in this beautiful area!
Vaartsluisbos
The Vaartsluisbos lies between the Hoge Vaart and the Lage Vaart canals and is the perfect place to walk the dog or have a picnic at one of the picnic tables. Feast your eyes on the natural surroundings and look for the various tree species such as the sweet cherry, walnut and sweet chestnut tree!
Museumbos
Discover the Museum Museumbos: a notion for young families and families to spend a nice day together in nature next to Overgooi. Explore the spiral path and admire 'Almere Boven'. Play games in the Labyrinth or wander through the forest of lime trees.
