Woonboten
One of the more successful projects from the viewpoint of Gewilde Wonen (‘Desired Living’, a movement towards liberalised housing). Concrete boats measuring 18 x 5 metres, delivered with a small saloon-like superstructure of three storeys, was the starting point for a home that the owner can arrange however he or she pleases.
A wide range of houses appeared on the floating foundations, varying from modernist to traditional in style. Stretching the idea of freedom-of-choice to the DIY homebuilder in a lightly regulated context, has resulted in indisputable diversity.
