Lepelaarplassen nature reserve

Nature reserve

The impressive 'Lepelaarplassen' nature reserve is located adjacent to the Oostvaardersdijk. The area is named after the large colony of 'lepelaars' (spoonbills) who have made this their home since the 1970s. Other frequently observed birds here include grebes, little grebes, great egrets and cormorants.

You will find the Natte Graslanden (wet grasslands) south-west of the lakes; an excellent location for bird-watching.
A map is available from the De Trekvogel visitors centre, clearly showing all the local walks.

The Het Flevo-landschap organisation has created three new viewpoints in the Natte Graslanden area of the Lepelaarplassen nature reserve.
The viewpoints are dotted along the twelve kilometres cycling route bordering the Lepelaarplassen, which starts at the De Trekvogel visitors centre.

De Trekvogel visitors centre, Oostvaardersdijk 16, 1309 AA, Almere

Opened March - October (incl.) on Saturdays and Sundays from noon - 5pm
