The Oostvaardersplassen nature reserve

Over two years, various film teams followed foxes, geese, kingfishers, deer and Europe’s largest herd of wild horses, Koniks. The result was a natural history documentary the likes of which had never been seen in the Netherlands before. Would you like to discover the reserve for yourself? Ample opportunities exist to do so: Go on a safari with a forest ranger, get on your bike or download ‘The New Wilderness iTour’ on your smartphone and get going.

You can take a well deserved rest when you reach the welcoming bar in De Oostvaarders Nature Experience Centre on the Almere side, or alternatively, rest your legs in the Buitencentrum in Lelystad. Both visitors’ centres provide binoculars for spotting the birds and animals in the reserve.
