The winner of the 48th tile of the Walk of Fame Almere is Allyblijftbinnen because of their heartwarming actions in the city in corona time. The representatives of Allyblijftbinnen, Alderman Maaike Veeningen and Wouter Stevens, Director Rabobank Almere, unveiled the tile in Almere Centrum. The new tile covers the year 2021 and is located in Schutterstraat.
Between mid-May and early July, Almereans could vote for one of the three nominees. For the 2021 tile, the Challenge Almere-Amsterdam and the Short Stirling commemorative statue were also nominated, in addition to Allyblijftbinnen.
Positivity during corona time
The most votes went to Allyblijftbinnen. During corona time, in 2020 and 2021, Allyblijftbinnen brought positivity to the city with original activities for young and old. With the Almere Amphitheatre, this club brought attention to the still unknown but unique event venue near the Castle. They also handed out 5,000 roses on Valentine's Day to people who could use a helping hand, including local entrepreneurs, and organised an online Christmas show with poppodium De Meester. In 2020, they organised original Easter and Mother's Day promotions and a live stream was broadcast on the roof of the WTC building during King's Eve that every Almeerder could watch.
Challenge Almere-Amsterdam
In 2nd place finished the Challenge Almere-Amsterdam. Despite the prevailing corona pandemic and thus no public, the organisation managed to organise a World Triathlon Championship with participants from 40 different countries. Unique in a unique corona year, confirming Almere's reputation as a triathlon city. Thanks to the efforts of many volunteers, the triathlon weekend, which also includes the School Triathlon and Rabo Business Relay for local businesses, has been a celebration for the whole of Almere for many years.
Short Stirling commemorative statue
2021 saw the unveiling of the Short Stirling memorial statue. The Short Sherling is an English bomber that crashed in the Markermeer during World War II. In memory of the crew members, a work of art was placed in the Bos der Onverzettelijken in 2021. A unique story from the history of Almere.
Gift from Rabobank
The Walk of Fame is a gift from Rabobank Almere to the municipality and residents of Almere to mark the city's 35th anniversary. Rabobank will donate a new tile every year until 2043. The tiles lie like a ribbon through the centre of Almere and tell the history of the city.
Tile 2022
Almeerders can vote and decide who or what will be on the new tile. More background information on the subject can be read via QR codes on the tiles. Each year, the new tile is unveiled in Almere Centrum in September.
