Flevoland rose from the water. Yet there is still plenty of water in and around Almere, from marsh lakes to excavated recreational lakes and canals. Several special bird species know how to find that water, but there are also beavers swimming around. On the banks, unusual architecture catches the eye. For did you know that Almere is the third city in the Netherlands with unique architecture? World-famous architects like Rem Koolhaas, Herman Hertzberger and Liesbeth van der Pol have shown their skills here. But entire residential areas also have special and extraordinary architecture.
