Schaapskooi Architecture
In the Vroege Vogelbos in Almere, you will find the Schaapskooi. This potting shed is home to about 80 sheep. This flock lives in the unusual building designed with a special wooden cladding.
The exterior form of the Schaapskooi curves around an ingenious construction. The facades are pencilled on all sides, with boards laid on top of each other at unequal heights. This gives the homogeneous exterior form a modest kind of variation. Only the curved rafters in the interior are steel. The stable is designed to accommodate visitors. Upstairs, an accommodation for a shepherd and an office have been fitted in. Some windows are far inward, while others are designed as dormers, giving the building a face.
