De Koka Kola River (9+)
Jaylano lives in Suriname, but due to circumstances is staying in the Netherlands with his nephew Kevin. His parents are also from Suriname, but he has never been there himself. While Kevin learns that the Koka Kola river is not really sticky and that piranhas don't just eat your legs while you are taking a shower, Jaylano turns out to find the Netherlands a crazy place. Why is it okay to call the teacher 'you' here and do people eat something as boring as a brown and cheese sandwich for lunch? Can Jaylano really feel at home here?
Bodil de la Parra wrote a text about longing for a country where you have never been, but perhaps still belong. 'The Koka Kola River' is a warm-blooded, musical youth performance with lots of humour about choosing between your roots and the place you know, about discovering new things and leaving your own habits behind.
