Following a competition among renowned architectural firms, the architecture was designed by Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa of the Japanese architectural firm SANAA. The theatre was opened by Queen Beatrix in 2007. Did you know that the memorial stone placed in the floor of the power plant contains a Japanese haiku? It reads, "Water glass and light - monument to imagination - in a new city". All the exterior facades of the Kunstlinie are made of glass!
