A-A-Almere is back, and how! City ensemble Black Pencil presents the fifth edition of its annual musical ode to Almere. This time a special around Almere 50. You will not experience a traditional concert, but an evening full of fresh idiosyncratic energy and surprises, just as you would expect from Black Pencil . A stimulating programme that mixes contemporary classical music with folk, film, video and theatre. From intimate sounds to explosive crossovers. A-A-Almere stimulates all the senses. Unique collaborations with cultural makers from the city give local energy to the evening. New this year: a genre-crossing repertoire with links to spoken word, DJ sets and pop. And especially for the city's anniversary year, the Almere landscape comes to life in imaginative pieces written especially for Almere. From the hand of celebrated composer of the Fatherland Camiel Jansen and prominent Dutch composer Roderik de Man, among others. Pieces you won't hear anywhere else, performed on instruments you've never seen before. A-A-Almere is not a concert, it is a vibe. Come and be surprised. About Black Pencil The Almere city ensemble Black Pencil is a game changer band with over a thousand years of musical history as its playing field. The possibilities of a huge collection of recorders, pan flutes, viola, accordion and percussion are endless - as is the curiosity and imagination of the five musicians. The international ensemble, rooted in Flevoland, is a welcome guest in classical concert halls and on stages and festivals in the Netherlands, as well as in Germany, Austria, Spain, Ireland, Turkey, Denemarken, Indonesia and Venezuela. The musicians organise their own concert series in Amsterdam and Almere and collaborate with other companies, Land Art Flevoland and Schokland UNESCO World Heritage Site, among others. The ensemble constantly challenges itself to generate new work, inviting prominent and new composers from all corners of the world. With respect, knowledge and refinement, the finest music is lifted from its historical place and brought into a refreshing new light. Since the group was founded in 2010, 500 new pieces have been composed for Black Pencil. Almere's city ensemble has successfully released several albums. Recent projects connect Black Pencil to the worlds of virtual reality, theatre, dance and landscape art.
