25th anniversary of Dierenambulance Almere

Stray dogs or cats, hit-and-run animals or other animals in need have to rely on people who want to offer help in their spare time as an animal ambulance volunteer. Stichting Dierenambulance Midden Nederland is part of the Dierenbescherming and has Almere and Zeewolde as its working area.

The primary task of the animal ambulance is to transport stray, sick and injured animals. This applies to pets as well as wildlife. Other tasks of the animal ambulance include giving first aid to injured animals, transporting sick and hit animals to the vet and transporting stray animals to shelters. But also providing education in schools and freeing animals from a plight are among the tasks of the animal ambulance.

The Central Netherlands Animal Ambulance celebrated its 25th anniversary on 18 February 2019 and it was thanks to the efforts of many volunteers! On winning the 2019 Walk of Fame rule, Wanda de Boer of Animal Ambulance Midden Nederland says: ''It is a wonderful token of appreciation for all the volunteers who work for the animal ambulance.''

Almere City Run anniversary 10 years

The Almere City Run celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2019. Distances for young and old take runners past beautiful green surroundings and around het weerwater in Almere. The running event gets the city moving, creates connections and contributes to general social causes. Almere City Run belongs to the city. It is our pride.

First European Transgender Path in Almere

Europe's first transgender path was inaugurated in Almere on 2 November 2019. The zebra crossing has been painted in the colours of the transgender flag: pink, blue and white. The path is located on Hospitaaldreef, between Flevo Hospital and Windesheim University of Applied Sciences. Before the official opening, a Winter Pride Walk was held, during which a large rainbow flag was carried through the city. The walk had the theme 'Proud to be me'.
