2008 - 'The Oostvaarders'

Nature experience centre De Oostvaarders will officially open in 2008. From this centre, Almeerders can observe the Almere nature with binoculars: the Oostvaardersplassen.

Construction of the Zoneiland at Noorderplassen-West will also start in March 2008. Aldermen Martine Visser and Adri Duivesteijn and board chairman Van Halderen of energy company Nuon perform the unveiling. For the first time in the Netherlands, homes in a residential area are being heated collectively with solar energy generated on site. With approximately 7,000 m2 of collector surface area, the Zoneiland in Noorderplassen-West will be the fourth-largest in the world and unique in the Netherlands.
