The first housing project in Duin, designed by Groosman Architects, comprises over two hundred rental and owner-occupied houses, realised in Zuiderduin. This project stands out for its integration of landscape and spacious, light houses. The houses are scattered among the sometimes ten-metre-high dunes, along winding roads surrounded by shell paths and beach grass. There are several housing types, including cubes, variants with extra floors and roof terraces, and some traditional houses with pointed roofs. By designing the façades in soft yellow-grey tones and with wooden verandas, the architecture matches the colour palette of the dune landscape. Cars are parked in private yards or small parking spaces. The asphalt contains shells, contributing to the 'Strandstad van de Randstad' slogan. The facades, executed in different sizes of brick, in wild bond, have windows in various sizes and positions, giving a playful effect. The location of the houses creates attractive vistas and walkways, with views of the dune landscape. On Duinrugstraat, we see terraced houses interspersed with detached houses, creating an airy streetscape. Duinvoetstraat demonstrates the concept of 'natural and urban' living, with spacious houses by the creek and forest. This project illustrates how architecture and landscape can blend harmoniously.
