A crooked building, like a shipwreck against the edge of the dike, is what the building of Natuurbelevingcentrum De Oostvaarders in Almere looks like. A gate beckons the public to lose themselves in a breathtaking view through a higher panoramic room. What makes the building really exciting is the use of contrasting bright yellow and dark wood.

On the edge of a unique nature reserve is Natuurbelevingcentrum De Oostvaarders. The building has two faces. An open and inviting vertical entrance lures the public in from the car park, to reward it with breathtaking views from the horizontal, closed side. For this, one has to overcome the difference in height upon entering, but a beautiful staircase invites one to do so. The view of the 'savannah of the north' is everyone's reward. The view side has wide strips of glass, breaking through the cross-mounted wooden façade. Even in the space below, the storey-high glass wall provides breathtaking views. The finish with contrasting colours: bright yellow and dark wood makes it really exciting. The multifunctional building has been realised at the meeting point of landscapes of different character: land, water, forest and reed beds. The building is both on and adjacent to the dike surrounding the reed beds.
