At the Arison Maritime Academy and the associated CSMART Hotel, cruise ship personnel are trained, retrained and housed. The two buildings are architecturally coordinated, have the same structure and a transparent character. The complex is exclusively for Academy staff and guests. The training centre contains advanced technologies such as engine rooms, simulators and ship bridges, grouped around a central hall with daylight through an immense roof light. Classrooms and staff rooms open onto this atrium, with balustrades and stairs panelled with light wooden slats. The exterior of the training centre is wide, while the 11-storey hotel, with 176 rooms, rises in height. The facades of both buildings are glass, at the hotel five metres wide and continuous from floor to ceiling, with aluminium cassettes between them. The wide cassettes are brown at the training centre, and yellow/white at the hotel, matching the dune palette. The hotel rests on a platform with a spacious entrance, reception, restaurant, gym and lounge. The cantilevered canopies reduce energy consumption through intelligent facades that respond to sunlight. Solar panels on the roof and insulation contribute to sustainability, a key design principle.
