A structure made of aluminium sheets, which were once bright red. Sun and light have greatly diluted the colour so that it is now salmon-coloured. The rounded roofline makes the building look like an animal from a science fiction story, which at any moment might raise the trunk that lies across its back, to scan the blue sky with its rounded sensors. The whole thing is casually sprinkled with black paint splatters. Behind the glass wall on the north side loom the boilers and pipes of the heat exchange plant, which provides Almere Poort with district heating. The hot water is a residual product of the power plant in Diemen and is pumped through an eight-kilometre-long transport pipeline through the IJmeer to be transferred to the district's grid in this Warmte Overdracht Station(WOS) by means of six heat exchangers. This, the largest WOS in the Netherlands, significantly reduces CO2 emissions and supplies heat to 11,000 homes and businesses in a comfortable and environmentally friendly way.
