The Mayor is not a real restaurant, but a creation by brothers Nanne and Simon Balyon. In 2003, they painted this cheerful scene featuring the seven mayors Almere had known until then. Surrounding them are other famous Almere residents from that time. In 2008, Nanne Balyon added new regulars and mayor Annemarie Jorritsma moved to the safe balcony - inaccessible to the spray cans of critical graffiti artists. One floor up, there is much more to see, from a crowned Queen Máxima to a peeping President Bush. Up there, Statler and Waldorf, the two grumbling males from the Muppet Show, no doubt cynically comment on this show, but they are just too high up to hear it.
