Seed bearer
The bronze sculpture Zaaddrager by Hieke Luik stands on the Kolkplein in Almere Centrum. This organic artwork from 1993 depicts growth and fertility and is part of the sculpture route in Almere-Stad.
The sculpture was commissioned by Rijkswaterstaat as part of an art project to give the young city centre character. The five-legged, bronze figure with spherical elements seems firmly anchored in the earth. In its whimsical forms, one recognises both human and animal traits. The angled placement refers to the original embankment on Delfzijlsingel, where the work was unveiled in 1993.
Since 2021, the artwork officially bears the title Seed Bearer. The name refers to growth, spread of life and connection with nature. In 2025, the sculpture can be seen temporarily during ARTZUID in Amsterdam. On Kolkplein, Ode aan Armando by Klaas Gubbels will then temporarily take its place.
