HIGHnote

Approaching HIGHnote from Cinemadreef, this landmark acts as the entrance to the city centre. With its back to Landdrostdreef, it steps down towards the city centre in four storeys. Its embedding in the inner city fabric, on a former, triangular car park, makes the building a striking feature: the first tall residential building in the city centre. On the ground floor, the design provides publicly accessible city rooms for catering and retail. Along the edge of the plot, a single continuous peristyle of sturdy columns surrounds these public city rooms. Towards the top, in the staggered blocks, 157 rental flats for starters have been built. The pink facades are made of prefabricated concrete. The square building elements, from colonnade to window and balcony, create a pleasant rhythm.

The residential concept is new to Almere. The size of the flats varies between 45 and 70 m². The 67 'Friendshomes', which are rented together but have rental contracts drawn up on an individual basis, measure 65 to 100 m². HIGHnote also offers flexibility in spatial design and programming. This means that the residences can be adapted or merged in the future. This gives the building adaptive capacity, making it sustainable and future-proof.
