Seintoren Architectuur

Designed by a civil engineer, this tower is architecturally harmonious. The top circular disc forms the roof and serves as a table for the radar installation. The second disc hangs like a balcony around the white-plastered tower shaft, which contains only a steel door. Behind it, a spiral staircase leads to the tower room with windows all around, and thus views in all directions. The roof here is supported by sloping trestles, providing a gradual transition to the tower shaft. The seintoren stood in Wijk bij Duurstede to guide shipping traffic at the junction between the Lek and Amsterdam-Rijnkanaal rivers. Rijkswaterstaat donated it to Almere on the town's 20th anniversary, obviously hoping that the remarkable building would be preserved here. It did, becoming a municipal monument in 2022. Since 2019, the Seintoren has been used as a B&B.
