The municipality of Almere aims to be a city without waste in the future and is therefore investing in new concepts. With the Growing Green City idea in mind, this upcycle platform has been realised. The exterior wall with a vertical wood structure houses small businesses in the plinth. The material was harvested from demolished municipal property and uprooted trees. Other materials came from a demolished neighbouring sports hall and swimming pool. Ceiling tiles, door handles and benches from the changing rooms were also reused. Upon entering, motorists are directed to the first floor. Containers on the ground floor collect the waste material. The walls of the concrete core on the ground floor, serve as space dividers for offices and storage. The head office is on the first floor. A striking feature is the floating roof: it houses solar panels and collects rainwater that is used to flush the sanitary facilities and clean the grounds. The steel columns and beams come from the previously mentioned demolished buildings. They are recognisable by their anthracite colouring, while new steel components are grey in colour. The building is fully demountable and relocatable. Everything is bolted and can therefore be unscrewed.
