Story of Flevoland

Almere is a city in constant flux, and this is reflected in the latest addition to the streetscape: an impressive series of murals that together tell 'The Story of Flevoland'. These artworks are not only pleasing to the eye, but also take you on a visual journey through the history, present and future of our province.
From sea to land: a colourful story
Eight metre-high murals have appeared in the Odeonstraat in Almere Centrum, each highlighting a unique aspect of Flevoland. Artist collective District 13, along with several other artists, have creatively depicted themes such as the reclamation, the first inhabitants and the future of Flevoland. In 'Breathing Life', for instance, Michelle Wagenaar portrays the cooperation between man and nature, while Sjaak Kooij brings to life the shipping history of the former Zuiderzee with 'Amphitrite'.
The most striking artwork is 'Student in Almere', affixed to the Hospital garage. Artist Kasper Jongejan created this together with students from all the mbo and hbo schools in Almere, focusing on the development of young adults.
