Swan Lake (6-99 years)

Choreographer Stijn Celis created a contemporary adaptation of Swan Lake for the whole family. After the successful tour three years ago, Introdans brings this world-famous and beloved classic back to the stage - in a sparkling, contemporary adaptation for young and old. The dance language is powerful and expressive, rich in poetry, grotesque humour and a hefty dose of imagination.

With his Swan Lake, Belgian choreographer Celis gave a surprisingly fresh, humorous and innovative twist to the 'ballet of ballets': Swan Lake, which has been danced worldwide for 125 years since its very first performance. Swan Lake is a grand and compelling spectacle in which the entire Introdans ensemble shines in an impressive setting, carried by Tchaikovsky's timeless, majestic and moving music.

The press about Swan Lake

"This Swan Lake is very lively. The costumes are colourful and festive, the conventions of classical ballet language are humorously subverted and the swans' movements are intriguing: animalistic whimsical rather than romantically graceful." - Theatre newspaper

"Boxing moves and animal manners: this free version of 'Swan Lake' is full of happy surprises." - De Volkskrant

"Introdans' new modern version of Swan Lake looks youthful and fresh." - Theatre Paradise

In this adaptation of Swan Lake, the choreographer emphasises the tense relationship between Prince Siegfried and his domineering mother, the Queen, and Siegfried's desire to escape the "clutches" of the monarchy. Themes such as the awakening of the senses and the search for your own path take centre stage. This is precisely why this production also manages to touch younger audiences.

"Swan Lake was not originally made for children, but is very suitable for them. The production excites, is theatrical, contains all kinds of technical feats such as an inflatable set and a fold-out aeroplane staircase, and at the same time the story is very easy to follow. As a spectator, you go on a fascinating journey where you don't get bored for a second." Roel Voorintholt
