Big Pharma

The CEO of a major pharmaceutical company is threatened. After a failed assassination attempt, the blame seems clear: the culprit has been incited by an online channel spreading conspiracies about the company. In a fit of rage, the CEO decides to visit the platform's creators at home. A confrontation full of misunderstanding, old wounds and revenge ensues.

With 'Big Pharma', director Eric de Vroedt creates a performance about distrust and power: a small group of pharmaceutical companies has great influence on our healthcare and thus our daily lives. Their drugs save lives, but also generate huge profits for the entrepreneurs and shareholders. How unfair is that system? Conspiracy thinkers see big pharma as part of a larger problem: our world is ruled by powerful, invisible forces.

"Conspiracy thinkers' facts are usually wrong, but their instincts sometimes are - though they are often paranoid," says De Vroedt about this. "Conspiracy thinkers expose how, more often than we want to admit, we are insufficiently critical of the systems around us."
