Goede Rede Klassiek: Saxophone Quartet Maat

The Maat Saxophone Quartet presents an intimate programme that invites the audience to really listen. With works by Caroline Shaw, Julia Wolfe, Arvo Pärt and others.

The Maat Saxophone Quartet plays groundbreaking music and tells stories that touch. The young Portuguese musicians Daniel Ferreira (soprano saxophone), Catarina Gomes (alto saxophone), Pedro Silva (tenor saxophone) and Mafalda Oliveira (baritone saxophone) found each other in the Netherlands, where they speak one musical language and connect two cultures.

They like to think and play outside the beaten path of the classical saxophone quartet. Since their formation in 2018, they have been building an international career, winning prizes such as the Prémio Jovens Músicos in Portugal and the Dutch Classical Talent Award in 2022. According to De Luister, their playing is "promising, devilishly good and heavenly infectious".

With Entr'acte, the quartet showcases the versatility of the saxophone quartet. From whisper-soft sounds to powerful, rhythmic passages. Music sometimes reminiscent of the human voice, sometimes hushed and meditative, then pulsating and energetic. A concert that offers space to pause and listen with full attention.
