Maame Joses

Nina Simone was a brilliant singer and pianist. She had nothing to do with the term jazz musician and described her style as black classical music. Simone was ambitious, bipolar and an outspoken fighter against racism and for civil rights. She wrote songs like 'Feelin' Good' and had great musical successes, but her life was marked by dramatic marriages, poverty, arrests, mental problems and addictions. Like her great role model, singer-songwriter Maame Joses' career began with gospel music in church. Joses talks about Nina's intriguing life, shares her own experiences as a black singer and, accompanied by pianist Floris Kappeyne, sings songs from Nina Simone's multifaceted oeuvre.
