Tribute – Give cherry blossom trees a new lease of life

On Saturday 7 November, the ‘ Regenboogbuurt ’ in Almere will be all about art, nature and creativity during ‘Tribute – Second Act’. From 10.00 to 14.00, you’re welcome to visit Prismapark to discover how the wood from the much-loved Japanese ornamental cherry trees is being given a new lease of life. Take part in free creative workshops, make something beautiful from cherry wood and contribute to a special art project for the neighbourhood.

Every spring, the beautiful cherry blossom trees in the ‘ Regenboogbuurt ’ turn the streets pink. As a number of trees are diseased or dead, they are being replaced by young trees. But the story of the old trees doesn’t end there! Artist Jos Bregman and the ‘ Regenboogbuurt ’ Foundation are giving the wood a new lease of life through the ‘Tribute’ art project.

During the second act, you can see up close how the cherry wood is processed. Get creative yourself and make, for example, a wooden pendant or an autumnal centrepiece. Together with other visitors, you’ll work on art for the neighbourhood and help create a special bench for the ‘ Kersenbloesemfeest Almere ’. You’ll also discover how the chips in the wood work, allowing personal stories and memories to be preserved. For visitors with visual impairments, there is a special table with tactile models.

Would you like a lasting memento of the cherry blossom trees? Then discover the options for a personalised wooden item, such as a serving board, table or bench made from this special cherry wood.

Tribute – Act Two is free to attend and suitable for all ages. No booking is required for the workshops. Come and see, smell, discover and take part in this special part of Almere!
