Through a blend of poetry, theatre and visual art, Leendert takes the audience on an autobiographical journey about growing up, searching for one’s place in the world and trying to understand oneself. As a child, he asked his mother: “Would you love me if I were a girl?” There was no answer. It is precisely in that silence that space is created for questions for which there aren’t always immediate words.
In a poetic and musical way, the performance moves between masculinity and femininity, between doubt and a longing for freedom. WOULD YOU LOVE ME invites you to look and listen with an open mind, at a time when judgements about gender and identity are often made too quickly.

Leendert Vooijce / Female Economy
Leendert Vooijce is an interdisciplinary performance artist whose work explores questions of gender, identity, love and social expectations. Drawing on a personal and autobiographical perspective, Leendert creates poetic performances that make space for doubt, change and new ways of looking at what it means to be human. Using language, music, song and visual elements, he creates performances that are at once intimate, philosophical and accessible.
After studying at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, Leendert joined Adelheid Roosen’s theatre collective Female Economy. Their work has been exhibited at venues including the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. In 2019, Leendert was named one of the free thinkers in the arts by the Amsterdam Museum. Together with Female Economy, Leendert works on performances and projects centred on encounter, imagination and social engagement.
