2011 - Opening of Klokhuis

| | |

Princess Máxima opens theKlokhuis, which was designed by children. This pink, cake-shaped building stands in the sustainable Cascadepark in Poort. This official opening also includes the presentation of the so-called 'Klokhuis book'.

The KlokHUIS grew to become the symbol of Private Commissioning; an alternative way to realise one's own housing wishes. 'The KlokHUIS is proof that self-building is possible and even children can design and (have) their house built,' said KinderCasla, who followed the project closely for all twelve Klokhuis episodes of NTR (Casla no longer exists).

Another architectural masterpiece is the Expo Floating Life in Pampushaven. Floating homes as a solution to tightness in the housing market in the future.

November 2011 marks an important milestone for student city Almere. With the opening of Windesheim Flevoland (now WIndesheim in Almere), it offers high school students further study opportunities in higher (vocational) education.
