1998 - The Pavilions open
![]()
In 1998, Museum De Paviljoens opened in Almere Stad, as the first and only museum in Almere. The buildings of this museum were originally commissioned by Jan Hoet and designed by Belgian architects Paul Robbrecht and Hilde Daem as temporary exhibition space for the 1992 Documenta IX in Kassel, Germany. Two years later, the entire pavilion complex moved from Germany to the Netherlands. It manages the Almere Collection and shows contemporary art in ever-changing exhibitions. In time, Museum De Paviljoens will transfer to De Kunstlinie Almere, together with other parties. De Paviljoens was sold to the municipality of Amersfoort and moved from Almere to Amersfoort at the end of 2014.
In 1998, Nicolette Kluijver presented as one of the first 'young dogs' on AlmereRulez, the chat channel on TMF Chat.
And in addition, construction of Almere's synagogue (NIG) starts in 1998.
