1996 - Kestrel

In 1996, Almere celebrated its 20th anniversary with a real 'city farm' on Stadslandgoed de Kemphaan. Almere children love to come and take a look at the stables and sheep pastures during the - now traditional - Harvest Festival.

Another 'green' project completed in 1996 and 1997 is Marinus Boezem's The Green Cathedral. This outdoor artwork depicts a cathedral 'of poplars with the sky as a vault'.

In addition, in this year, the CASLa Architecture Centre Foundation is established; Almere's Centre for Architecture, Urban Planning and Landscape provides information on the city's (architectural) past, present and future. Meanwhile, CASLa no longer exists. You can find information on architecture at Visit Almere.

By the way, former minister Winnie Sorgdrager will open the prison 'Almere Binnen' in Almere Buiten in April this year. And cycling to Huizen with a ferry ride across the Gooimeer will also be possible in this year.
