Klein India
The project consists of 72 houses in the form of two facing courtyards in a square shape. One has facades in shades of yellow, pink and orange, the other blue. They surround an elongated pond. At their ends is a four-storey blue residential block on one side, and the same volume in red on the other. These 'palaces', crowned with circular steel balconies, contain three dwellings each. The architect designed the project after travelling through India, where she was struck by the setting of the Taj Mahal on reflecting water. The houses in the courtyards have pointed storage areas at the back. This pleasantly separates the gardens from each other and gives people plenty of privacy. At the front, the land is communal and residents take care of maintenance together.
