Kasteel Almere
Kasteel Almere is also known as a 'contemporary ruin'. Anyone who ever drives along the A6 will surely have spotted this ruin. The castle is located on the Oude Waterlandseweg in Almere Haven.
Plans for the castle started in 1999. The design was inspired by the 13-century Majeppe Castle in Hargimont, Belgium. The castle was built in 2000, but in 2002 construction was halted. In 2005, company Countess BV. came up with a project to turn the castle into a hotel and wedding venue. The municipality did not agree to the proposal and the castle remained in its current state. From 2013 to 2018, the plan was to make Kasteel Almere part of the WitchWorld theme park project. Due to the discontinuation of this project, the castle remains a contemporary ruin until today.

In 2021, Camp Seedorf had the chance to put an extra spotlight on the castle tower in honour of Floriade. They did so using their tried-and-tested method: paint rolls of paper, cut out the artwork and then stick it on the wall. Or in this case: three giant walls. Such street art is by definition temporary, but now storm and rain had already struck before the Floriade opened. On the side, the proud slogan 'ALLY' was just recognisable. On the front and back, only a few coloured scraps recalled the bright green Hulk and Transformer that Camp Seedorf had devised for the tower. But actually, that suited this already chipped ruin wonderfully.
