Kerkgracht
A shallow moat, lined with espaliers, connects the two street sides. The brick facades with concrete bands have a decoration in the top reminiscent of the stepped gables of canal houses. The ground floor on the side of the canal combines houses with shops, sometimes still with an artistic slant, referring to the period when people wanted to turn it into an art canal. On the other side of the street, there are only houses. Apon deliberately used historicising elements so that the new residents would feel at home. On the market side is an artwork of a dolphin on a table (Marcel Smink). This peaceful animal forms the place where all Almeerders commemorate dead people on 4 May.
