Living with a View

The dike villa Living with a View in Almere is six metres wide and 16 metres deep. The ground floor partly lies in an artificially raised dyke body. Three sides are extremely consistently and regularly clad with slats of red cedar. The fourth, facing the neighbourhood, is plastered grey.

This fourth wall is almost closed. The high, narrow wall facing the street contains a wide garage door and large windows on the upper floors. To the side and rear, the house increasingly opens up to the fantastic panoramic view over the Gooimeer. The ground and first floors are largely occupied by an indoor swimming pool. Living is on the second and third floors. The shape and scale of the building block make the house monumental. With its height and glass windows, it is nevertheless an earthly house, resting in the embankment foot.
