On Sunday 22 November, nature guides from the IVN will be leading an excursion in this area, with the theme ‘Sightlines and Land Art’.
Pampushout is a sizeable urban woodland. When the woodland was planted, consideration was given to Almere’s future urban development, with the woodland also intended to serve an important recreational purpose. It is therefore a suitable location for a riding school. The walk takes you through varied woodland and along leafy avenues. You’ll stop to admire Lieke Frielink’s artwork, a sculpture called ‘Cityscape follows Manscape’. From this artwork, you can look out across the Gouden Rand as far as the Oostvaardersdijk. The area also features a lovely pond, where you might already spot a few overwintering waterbirds. Mallards, gadwalls, swans and coots swim there all year round. You’ll also pass a bank where sand martins nest from May/June onwards. There’s a good chance you’ll also come across traces of otters in this area, as they’ve been spotted here before. In short, let yourself be surprised – come along! Do make sure to wear wellies or waterproof footwear, as it can be muddy in places.
