De Hulk
The building named after a warship, De Hulk in Almere, has served as an office building and temporary building for the growing school de Meergronden. After the building became vacant, a conversion was started in 2012 to turn this building into an apartment complex, with space left on the ground floor for facilities. The building was stripped down to its concrete structure. Elements in keeping with the origins of Almere's first residents were chosen. The building was further sustainably redeveloped and the flat part of the roof was fitted with solar panels and a sedum roof.
