First bivakhuisje on Open Monuments Day

Go back to the very beginnings of Almere! At the Water-land allotment park stands the last of eight bivouac huts that mark the founding of Almere in 1975. During Open Monument Day on 13 September, you can take a look inside this special municipal monument.

Discover old photographs and drawings and hear stories about Almere’s first residents and its early years. There’s also plenty to do in the green allotment park on this day. Think guided tours, activities for children, poetry and music, as well as a talk on the archaeological treasures buried in the new land.

Almere’s 50th anniversary
The 50th anniversary of Almere and the 40th anniversary of the province of Flevoland provide the perfect opportunity to put the spotlight on the last remaining bivakhuisje . Water-land has put together a programme of festivities centred on the theme ‘archaeology and history of the new land’. A grant from the province of Flevoland has helped to make this programme possible.
