Rolling Past, Rolling Future is a free roller skating event organised as part of Almere’s 50th anniversary celebrations. On Sunday 28 June, the Esplanade will be transformed into a venue where exercise, music and socialising come together for residents and visitors of all ages and backgrounds.
Roller skating played an important role in the social life of young people and families in Almere's early years: an accessible way to meet in a city that was still developing. This initiative brings that history to life and connects it to Almere's present and future.
What's on offer? Visitors can watch, participate and share memories during:
- A roller-skating rink, where you can book time slots (compulsory). When booking, you can also hire skates for free (subject to availability).

- Demonstrations and workshops by roller skaters from different generations.
- A short presentation featuring stories and images from 50 years of Almere.
- Musical entertainment featuring familiar tunes from different eras.
Everyone is invited to come along, learn, share stories and celebrate the anniversary together.
