Erfgoedcafé: The story of the Stone Age fishermen of Stichtsekant

The Stone Age fishermen of Stichtsekant come to life during the Erfgoedcafé on Thursday 27 November at Cultuurhuis Almere Buiten. Former city archaeologist Willem-Jan Hogestijn will take you back in time and tell you about the fishermen who lived in this area thousands of years ago.

During this fascinating lecture, you will hear all about the unique archaeological finds from Flevoland, including New Stone Age wooden fish constructions (visweren) and fish traps. Hogestijn will share the results of recent excavations in Stichtsekant, where three large fish weirs were uncovered. Find out how these structures were built and used, what they tell about Stone Age collaboration and what differences there are from other locations in the Netherlands.
