Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson rises above himself as MMA legend Mark Kerr, an American mixed martial arts fighter considered one of the greatest talents in the history of the sport. In the ring, he is unbeatable, but outside, he struggles against addiction, inner demons and the pressures of his success. Meanwhile, his girlfriend Dawn (Emily Blunt) struggles with her place in the chaotic world of martial arts and in Mark's life.
The biopic The Smashing Machine is based on the inspiring and true story of two-time UFC champion Kerr, directed by Benny Safdie (Uncut Gems, The Curse). Besides an unrecognisable Dwayne Johnson, there is a special role for Dutch MMA celebrity Bas Rutten.
