Gaucho Gaucho means you are a 'real' gaucho. You live by tradition, uphold honour, sing, dance and dress like a gaucho. In the foothills of the Andes, the filmmakers find a community that sticks to these traditions and finds great happiness in them.
A petite girl fulfils her greatest wish of all by becoming a traditional gaucho. Boys absorbed in the wilderness gallop through vast landscapes. The truly peerless photography, playful editing and particularly compelling soundtrack regularly make you feel like you are in a feature film. This is enhanced by the fact that the makers tell these stories without interviews or commentary; the gauchos play the lead role in their own story.
Despite their seemingly simple and tough existence, the film exudes the romance and happiness these people find in their connection with nature and each other. Gaucho Gaucho is a tribute to a disappearing culture and a celebration of the freedom that lies in these traditions.
