Indonesia was a colony of the Netherlands for over 350 years. After World War II, some 350,000 Dutch Indonesians came to their 'homeland', where they quietly tried to build a new existence.
The first generation mainly wanted to integrate silently and is the last to know the Dutch East Indies from their own experience. The second generation leans on their parents' tempo doeloe and forms a bridge between the first and the next generations, between the Netherlands and Indonesia.
The third generation is curious about their cultural heritage and the land of their ancestors, looking for what has been passed down and what it means today.
