Come and enjoy a thrilling organ concert in this beautiful church in Emmeloord. Organist Evan Bogerd will be performing alongside trumpeter Sebastiaan Haverkate. The concert will be preceded by an interesting introduction to the church and the organ.

Evan Bogerd – organ
Evan Bogerd (1993) is a much sought-after concert organist both at home and abroad. He studied organ with Herman van Vliet in Amersfoort and subsequently with Jos van der Kooy at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, with piano as a secondary subject. He subsequently completed his master’s degree, achieving a mark of ten for his final recital.

Over the years, Evan has won various prizes, including first prize at the international ‘Anton Bruckner’ Improvisation Competition in Linz and first prize twice at the National Improvisation Competition in Dordrecht.

Evan is passionate about promoting the organ to a wide audience. His repertoire ranges from Sweelinck to contemporary music by composers such as Daan Manneke. Bach, Franck and Reger are considered his favourite composers. Since 1 January 2020, Evan has been cantor-organist at the Westerkerk in Amsterdam.

Sebastiaan Haverkate
Sebastiaan Haverkate (1993) began playing the trumpet at the age of ten with the PTT brass band in Hengelo. Starting out in brass band music, he developed into a versatile trumpeter and musician. He studied light music and classical music at the conservatoires in Arnhem and Utrecht. He combined this with a degree in Earth Sciences at Utrecht University. Sebastiaan now works full-time in music as a teacher, conductor and arranger, but still prefers to play the trumpet.

His versatility means he can blend virtually any style. In recent years, he has performed with the National Youth Orchestra, ARS Musica and the Nieuwe Philharmonie Utrecht, as well as with the hip-hop/soul group JohnFrost, amongst others.

The Sweelinck Brass Quintet, founded by Sebastiaan in 2018, holds a special place in this context: a unique brass ensemble that almost always performs alongside the organ and percussion. In most cases, there is no sheet music available for this unique combination, which is why the members of the quintet write their own arrangements.
