At Home in Almere: Stories from Surinamese residents of Almere
From 18 June to 13 September 2026, the Almere City Archives will present the exhibition ‘At Home in Almere’, featuring portraits and personal stories of Surinamese residents of Almere. The exhibition puts a face to a community that has played a significant role in the city’s social, cultural and community life for many years.
Through striking portraits and candid interviews, you’ll meet residents who talk about their backgrounds, families, memories and experiences. They’ll also share what ‘home’ means to them and how they’ve seen Almere grow and change over the years.
This exhibition brings to light stories that are often overlooked but are indispensable to the history of Almere. This creates a richer and more complete picture of the city, one that makes room for different perspectives, memories and experiences.
