Underwater Photography Challenge in the IJsselmeer Region
Are you planning to head out onto the water around Flevoland soon? Or better still: are you going to get in the water? If so, bring your waterproof camera and take part in a photo challenge that captures the underwater life in the IJsselmeer region.
For most people, the IJsselmeer region is best known for its sweeping horizon, sailing boats and the beautiful skies above the water. For most people, the IJsselmeer region is best known for its sweeping horizon, sailing boats and the beautiful skies above the water. What goes on beneath the water’s surface often goes unnoticed: aquatic plants, fish and other organisms that together form a fragile and dynamic ecosystem. The Blauwe Hart Natuurlijk Coalition (CBHN) and the Flevoland Nature & Environment Federation (NMFF) want to bring this hidden world to light and are calling on experienced underwater photographers and snorkellers with waterproof cameras to submit their images.
Participants have until 1 September 2026 to submit their best underwater images of the IJsselmeer region. This region encompasses the IJsselmeer, Markermeer, IJmeer, the surrounding lakes and even the network of rivers and streams leading towards Groningen, Drenthe, Overijssel and Utrecht.
The most impressive entries will be featured in CBHN’s campaigns and publications, with the photographer’s name credited. In addition, the winner will be in with a chance of winning a prize, made possible by the Verbraaken Fund. By taking part, photographers grant CBHN and NMFF permission to use the images for their own communications; the photographer retains the copyright.
