Cinekid Presents Classics: Kapsalon Romy

When Romy’s recently divorced mother makes her stay with her grandmother after school, she is not happy. Nor is Grandma Stine, a stern woman who still works as a hairdresser, exactly keen on this babysitting job. But then Romy discovers that her grandmother is in the early stages of Alzheimer’s. From that moment on, the tables start to turn. Romy keeps the hairdressing salon in order and tries to make sense of her grandmother’s increasingly strange behaviour. What’s more, she wants to fulfil Stine’s final wish: to visit her Danish hometown one last time. Once they’re on their way, Romy realises that the situation is more serious than she thought.

In this intimate family drama, three generations of women are confronted with the consequences of Alzheimer’s. On top of that, Romy is also struggling to come to terms with her parents’ recent divorce. This moment marks the end of her carefree childhood, but at the same time proves to be the start of closer, more mature family bonds.
