Vernon Chatlein
Percussionist and composer Vernon Chatlein is from Curaçao and studied music in Cuba for two years. He then continued his training in the Netherlands with pianist Randal Corsen, the 'godfather' of Curaçao jazz.

His research into the historical sound archive 'Zikinza' took him to the roots of Afro-Curaçao music and resulted in Voices from Letters: Imershón, a musical ode to his ancestors, in which traditional percussion from Curaçao merges with chamber music and jazz.

In 2024, Vernon received the Gieskes-Strijbis Podiumprijs, the largest stage award in the Netherlands, for his meaningful contribution to the diversity of the performing arts.
